What is the photo requirement for SAT?

Understanding the SAT photo requirement –

Acceptable Photo Checklist – SAT

You can use recent photos—like your school picture or your passport photos—or you can take a new one. You can also link to Facebook to add a photo (you’ll be able to crop it). Just make sure that they meet all the requirements:

  • You are easy to recognize.
  • You are the only one in the picture.
  • There is a head-and-shoulders view, with your entire face, both eyes, and hair clearly visible; head coverings worn for religious purposes are allowed.
  • You are in clear and in focus
  • There are no dark spots or shadows
  • Black-and-white photos are acceptable

Getting a message that your upload was successful does not mean that your photo meets all requirements. It only means that it’s the correct file type and size.

What is the test structure of SAT?

SAT Structure

The SAT has been structured into 5 sections. The total time for the test is 3 hours and 50 minutes with the optional essay, or 3 hours without the essay.

There is a reading section, followed by a writing section. Additionally, there is a math section. The math section is further comprised of two sub-sections. Calculators are permitted in the first math subsection, however, calculators are not permitted in the second sub-section. Finally, there is an optional essay.

Each section is comprised of a set of questions. You will need to finish these questions in the allotted time. Jumping between sections is no longer permitted. However, you are welcome to go back through the same section within the time allocated to that section.

What is the total score of SAT?

SAT – Scoring

The SAT is scored on a 1600 point scale. This is further broken up into the Math and the Reading/Writing sections, where each section is awarded between 200 and 800 points each.

The optional essay doesn’t impact your overall score as it is evaluated separately. Also, now there is no penalty for wrong answers, so your raw score is the sum of the number of questions you answer correctly. Raw scores are converted to scaled scores, which are used to determine percentile ranks. The percentile indicates how well you did, compared to other students who also took the SAT.

For example, if you score in the 95th percentile, you did better than 95% of other students.

Is it mandatory to take the essay?

SAT Essay

The SAT essay is not mandatory.

Not all colleges require the essay score. You don’t have to take the SAT with optional Essay, but if you do, you will be able to apply to colleges that recommend or require it.  The SAT Essay is similar to the writing assignments you will get in college, and will also give the college a deeper look into you as a prospective student. It asks you to read a passage and analyze how the author constructs a persuasive argument. You’ll have 50 minutes to complete your Essay.

If you want to attempt the essay, keep in mind that you are required to register for it. In case you don’t register for it at first, you’re welcome to add it later though.

Is there penalty for wrong answers?

SAT Score Penalty

No, there is no penalty for wrong answers on the SAT. We recommend that you go ahead and make an educated guess. Cross out the answers you have determined are wrong in your test booklet, so you can clearly see which choices are left. After you have eliminated all of the choices that you know are wrong, guessing is your best strategy. There is no advantage to leaving a question blank.

Your raw score is the sum of the number of questions you answer correctly. Raw scores are converted to scaled scores, which are used to determine percentile ranks. The percentile indicates how well you did, compared to other students who also took the SAT.

For example, if you score in the 95th percentile, you did better than 95% of other students.

How have colleges in the US made the application process easier for students?

US universities have taken several measures to amplify recruitment and make the application process easier for students –

• Many universities have increased their participation in virtual recruitment fairs, meet-ups, and special information sessions.
• Universities are providing special virtual video appointments to access information more easily. These are done through popular platforms such as WhatsApp etc. The goal is to help students and their families with their questions.
• Colleges have begun offering highly immersive campus tours using VR. Students can now experience the campus, dorms, classrooms, libraries, sports facilities, etc.
• Universities are also providing additional time to students to submit transcripts and documents. They have done this because of the school closure in India and delays in examinations

What to expect on test day during the COVID-19 Pandemic

On test day, bring a face covering and wear it as directed by the test center. Also, practice social distancing at all times.

Be prepared to answer questions about your health prior to entering the test center. If you feel sick the day of your test, please stay home and contact customer service for your options. You won’t be charged a change or cancellation fee if you stay home due to illness.

Check your test center’s website for any additional entry requirements it may have. If you’re traveling to test, it’s your responsibility to know and to follow any quarantine requirements or travel restrictions in the location where you’re testing. Test centers may require proof that you’ve followed quarantine requirements and/or travel restrictions at check-in.

Testing during COVID-19

Make sure to stay up to date on the guidelines for testing during COVID-19

Whilst testing during COVID-19, it is important to follow the guidelines for the health and safety of you and those around you.

1. Check for Test Center Closings

Monitor test center closings in the days leading up to your test and the day of your test to make sure your test center hasn’t changed or closed.

We also recommend you check directly with the test center, including the test center’s website, on the morning of the test.

2. Doors Open at 7:45 a.m.

All test centers open at 7:45 a.m. and doors close at 8 a.m. unless otherwise noted on your admission ticket. You cannot be admitted once testing has started. If you’re late or absent on test day, you can reschedule. We recommend rescheduling as opposed to reregistering—it will cost less. Find out more about changing your registration information. We are currently waiving all change fees through June 25.

Make sure you show up with everything you need.

3. Testing Starts Between 8:30 and 9 a.m.

Your seat is assigned, not chosen by you. Wait to be seated. Here’s what will happen next:

  • The test coordinator will read all instructions verbatim from a manual and can answer questions only about the procedure, not about test questions or content.
  • The test coordinator will tell you when to start and stop working on each section.
  • You must work within each section of the test only for the time allotted.
  • Going back to a section once that section has ended is not permitted
  • You may not go-ahead to a new section if you finish a section early.
  • Do not skip sections. Doing so may result in score cancellation, delays, or both.
  • After the test is finished, the test coordinator will collect and count the test books to make sure all materials have been turned in before dismissing you from the testing room.

Don’t be surprised if your test experience isn’t exactly like that of the student sitting next to you. The sections in your test book might be different.

4. Breaks

For most students, there is one 10-minute and one five-minute break during the test. These are the only times you can eat and drink. Keep your ID and admission ticket with you at all times. They’ll be checked every time you enter the testing room.

Test books, answer sheets, and calculators must remain on your desk during breaks.

You can’t use this time to power up devices, like cell phones—if you do, your scores will be canceled.

5. Dismissal

You will ll likely be done around noon.

What are the rules on Devices at the test centre

What are the rules on Devices at the test centre

We mention cell phones and electronics often, and for good reason here is a list of the rules on devices at the test centre. Your scores will be canceled if you don’t follow the rules around devices.

Things to keep in mind:

Test administration staff reserves the right to collect and hold cell phones and other prohibited electronic devices during the test administration, including during break periods.

If your device makes noise, or if you are seen using it, or if you attempt to access it at any time, including breaks, you will be dismissed immediately, your scores can be canceled, and the device may be confiscated.

The College Board is not responsible for loss or damage to personal items, including electronic devices, while you are in the test center.

To ensure that no one gets an unfair advantage on test day, test center staff are required to collect and hold cell phones and other prohibited electronic devices during the test administration. You may not use or access the device until testing is complete.

Test centers are serious about security and quiet, so prohibited devices must be turned off and collected. Whenever possible, leave these devices at home.

If your device makes noise or you are seen using it at any time before testing is complete, including during breaks, it is grounds for immediate dismissal and score cancellation. The device may be confiscated and its contents inspected. The College Board is not responsible for loss or damage to personal items, including electronic devices, while you are in the test center.

1. Before Testing Begins

When you enter the testing room, be sure to disable any alarms (including your watch alarm, if you have one) and power off all cell phones and other electronic devices.

Follow the proctor’s instructions regarding device collection.

2. During Testing

Your devices should remain off during testing.

You may not use or access these devices during breaks. If you use prohibited devices before testing is complete your scores will be canceled.

3. After Testing

After testing is complete, you may retrieve your devices when the proctor indicates it is okay to do so.

4. Prohibited Devices

Prohibited devices include, but are not limited to:

  • Cell phones or smartphones
  • Audio players/recorders, tablets, laptops, notebooks, Google Glass, or any other personal computing devices
  • Separate timers of any type
  • Cameras or any other photographic equipment
  • Any devices, including digital watches, that can be used to record, transmit, receive, or play back audio, photographic, text, or video content (with the exception of CD players used for Language with Listening Subject Tests only)

US visa for Indians Students

US visa for Indians — which is right for me?

The US offers many types of visas, but there are only two types that are applicable to you as an international student:

F-1 student visa

This is the most common type of student visa that is needed if you plan to study at a US college or university, private secondary school, or an approved English language program. You will also need an F-1 visa if your course of study is more than 18 hours a week.

M-1 student visa

The M-1 student visa is primarily intended for those who want to pursue vocational training in the US. Students can enter the US with a M-1 visa and complete their full-time vocational studies.

What do I need for my US study visa?

Now that you know which visa is applicable for your studies, the next step entails getting all the required documents to complete your application.

Here are the documents you will need:

  • A non-immigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form. Visit the DS-160 web page for more information about it.
  • A passport valid for travel to the US with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the US (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions).
  • One 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) photograph taken within the last six months.
  • If a visa is issued, there may be an additional visa issuance reciprocity fee, depending on your nationality. The Department of State’s website can help you find out if you must pay a visa issuance reciprocity fee and what the amount is.
  • An approved original signed Form I-20 from your US school or programme.

What is the fee for US visa for Indians?

After getting all your documents in order, now’s the time to pay for your visa. For both F-1 and M-1 student visas, the fees are US$160 or less than IN₹13,000.

Note that this does not include any other additional charges that may apply to you. Also note that once payment is made, there will be no refunds.

How can I apply for a US visa interview?

Applicants for US visas are required to appear in person for an appointment at the Visa Application Center (VAC) and the visa interview at the US Embassy or Consulate.

You must schedule the VAC appointment at least one day before the interview appointment date. You can schedule both appointments, either online using this website  or through the call centre.

Note that visa applicants are encouraged to apply at least three months in advance of the intended date of travel. Although visa processing time is typically seven to 10 working days, processing time for specific cases may vary due to individual circumstances and other special requirements.

For the opening hours and locations where you can conduct your interview, click here.

How do I track my US visa progress?

Have you completed the above steps for a US visa for Indians to a T? Now, all that’s left is to wait. You can check your progress with this website. Once your visa is completed, you can collect it and move on to the next steps of your journey to the US.

We hope this guide on US visa for Indians was helpful and that you have a wonderful time studying in the US.

What is GRE?

 So What is the GRE

GRE stands for Graduate Record Examinations. It was founded by Educational Testing Services (ETS) in 1949. It is required to pursue your Masters in the USA. So now, many schools are also now accepting the GRE in place of the GMAT. Additionally, it is the most widely accepted graduate admission test worldwide. Furthermore, it brings you one step closer to achieving your career goal. And now, with the new ScoreSelectSM option, you can approach the test with even more confidence knowing that you can send institutions the scores you feel shows your personal best. The revised General Test features a new test-taker-friendly design and new question types. Thus, the GRE more closely reflects the kind of thinking you’ll do in graduate or business school and demonstrates that you are ready for graduate-level work.

The GRE is a computer-based aptitude test conducted all through the year at Prometric centers only. Students are primarily checked for their Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical writing skills. The duration of the test is 3.45 min and 4 hrs if you opt for optional breaks in between the Test.

Each year, about 700,000 prospective graduate and business school applicants from 230 countries/regions take the GRE. Appointments for the GRE are given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Only a few centers in each state are there to take tests. So plan your test date in advance and book your slot to avoid last a minute rush.

Why should I take GRE?

Understanding why should I take GRE –

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination is a widely accepted entrance exam. Several courses offered at foreign universities rely on the GRE results for the application process. The objective of the test is to evaluate the verbal, mathematical, and also analytical skills of the students. Additionally, it aims to check whether they are eligible to apply for the various courses.

The test helps the admission committee in the universities to gauge applicants. It is used to gauge students applying from across the world on the same platform. This is because the exams are the same for all the students taking the test across the world. Also, admissions or fellowship panels use GRE to better understand their applicants. Further, they supplement your undergraduate records, recommendation letters, and other qualifications for graduate-level study.

The GRE is mandatory for many students. All those aspiring for a Master’s Degree and Ph.D. courses in several universities in the US. This, however, excludes students of Business, Law, and Medicine. Thousands of graduate and business schools accept the GRE revised test.

How is the New SAT scored?

New SAT Scoring

Do I need a photo ID for the SAT?

SAT

Yes, you do need a photo ID for the SAT. Like some other countries such as Kenya, Thailand, Ghana etc. if you are taking the SAT in India the only acceptable ID is a valid passport and no other substitute IDs will be accepted. Without it, you will not be able to take the SAT. So if your passport has expired make sure you have a valid passport for test day. Along with your photo ID, do remember to carry a hard copy of your printed admission ticket.

When to start preparing for the ACT test?

Understanding when to start preparing for the ACT test –

Because the ACT test is an important one for college admissions, it is always best to begin preparation as early as possible. This allows more preparation time to achieve score goals. A student should start ACT prep by the summer before 11th grade, to maximize the effectiveness of Ivy Aspire’s ACT coaching, because there are no distractions such as school homework, projects, exams, or any other school activities. Students should start preparing for the ACT test no later than the summer before 12th grade.

Apart from giving yourself enough time to prepare, it is incredibly important to structure that time. Creating a plan and sticking to it will help optimise your time and provide the best results.

What if I take the ACT test and mess up?

Understanding what if you take the ACT test and mess up –

Retaking the ACT

If you would like to remove ACT scores from your records, you must submit a letter requesting to delete your score.

Keep in mind also that there is no limit to the number of times you can retake the ACT test. The colleges of your choice will ONLY see the score you choose to send.

However, in case you feel like there could be an error in scoring there is a simple solution. Your first order of business if you suspect a mistake is to order a copy of your ACT exam answers, the answer key, your essay, and the rubric used to grade your essay through the Test Information Release (TIR) form.

Understanding how many times can I take the ACT exam, and how many times should I take it –

ACT Exam & how many times you can take it

You may take the exam as often as you like. Further, a separate test score record is kept for each administration of the exam. Only the score record from the test date requested will be sent to a college. You can request for more than one test date report to be sent to a college.

Many students, in fact, make score improvements by retaking the ACT. Give yourself time to improve before you begin filling out applications. Bring intense focus to each test, and aim to get the best score each time you take the test!

What is a good score on the ACT test?

Understanding what is a good score for the ACT test –

ACT Score

The maximum score for each of the four ACT tests is 36. The composite ACT score is the average of the 4 scores. Students who took the ACT Plus Writing test will receive 2  additional scores: an ACT Writing score (0-12) and an English/Writing composite score (1-36).

A good ACT score is one that will get you into the college of your choice, so the answer depends on where you want to go to college. The average ACT score is 20. While class rank, extracurricular activities, major, recommendations, essays, and other factors also come into play in college admissions. Opt for the right test prep plan to optimise your studying. How long does it take to get my ACT test scores back?

How long will it take for me to get my ACT Score back?

ACT score release dates actually vary for students over a range of weeks. Most students, though, will get their multiple-choice scores just 10 days after taking the exam.

Your ACT test scores will be available online for early viewing about 2 weeks after the ACT test date. Paper score reports usually arrive 4-7 weeks after the test date at your high school counselor’s office. If you took the Writing Test, your score report will not be mailed until your ACT Writing score has been added to your record.

In case you don’t see your score, you should check back weekly. ACT scores are released on a weekly basis. They should all be out within eight weeks of your test date. Don’t worry about “Score Pending”. It just means that they haven’t released your scores just yet. They release them in batches throughout the day

Do I have to report all of my ACT scores, or can I choose which ACT scores to report?

Reporting ACT Scores

The answer depends on the school(s) to which you want to apply. ACT will allow you to report any or all test scores. (You may not, however, choose the reading score from one test date and the math score from another test date, for example, to make a “superscore”.) For example, suppose you take the regular ACT exam twice. You could report only the scores from the one test date that you feel is your best score. However, each college and university can set its own policy for the scores. College A may leave the choice up to you as to which scores to send, whereas University B may want to see all of your scores. Note that this is essentially done on an honor system, since ACT, will allow you to delete the score for a particular ACT test date from your record.

How is the ACT test scored?

ACT Test Score

There are four primary sections, ACT English, ACT Math, ACT Reading, and ACT Science. Each of the sections is scored on a scale of 1 to 36. The same scale has been used since the first ACT test in 1959.

If you are taking the ACT Writing, you will receive 2  additional scores:

  • A combined ACT English/ ACT Writing score (on the 1-36 scale)
  • A score for your essay, on a scale of 2 to 12.

Finally, you will receive an ACT composite score, which is just the average of the 4 primary scores.

Your Composite score and each test score range from 1 (low) to 36 (high). Further, the Composite score is the average of your four test scores, rounded to the nearest whole number. Fractions less than one-half are rounded down; fractions one-half or more are rounded up

What is the ACT Test, and why is ACT test important?

Why is ACT test Important

The ACT is a multiple-choice, paper and pencil test that covers the subject areas of math, English, reading, and science (and an optional writing section). The test will measure your skill levels as you prepare for entry into college. The composite score is one of the main things that colleges will look at. A perfect composite score is 36.

The ACT (American College Testing) is an internationally recognized college entrance examination. It is available to students as part of the undergraduate college application process. The exam covers four subjects: ACT English, ACT Mathematics, ACT Reading and ACT Science.

The ACT Plus Writing section includes an additional Writing section, which some colleges require for admission. The ACT test typically takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. Do note that – This is with breaks (or just over 4 hours with the optional ACT writing test).

Keep in mind that while the ACT test score is an important part of your admission process, it isn’t the only part of your application. Your cumulative G.P.A., the classes you’ve taken (core classes, AP, Honors, Dual-Credit) will also play a part in your admissions decision.

What if I require testing accommodations?

What if I need ACT testing accommodations

Testing Accommodation

Educational Testing Service (ETS) is committed to serving test takers with disabilities and health-related needs. It provides services and reasonable accommodations that are appropriate for the purpose of the test. Testing accommodations are available for test takers who meet ETS requirements.

There are four broad categories of accommodations you can get on the ACT:

Accommodations but no extra time

Common accommodations include large-print test booklets, small group testing, rooms with wheelchair access, stop-the-clock timing, medical supplies or food in the testing room, and visual time signals.

Extended time, or specifically, time and a half for the test

This comes out to five hours for the ACT, and five hours and 45 minutes for the ACT Plus Writing. Extended time may be combined with accommodations from the list above.

Special testing

This includes more than an extended time. These accommodations including a different test format such as Braille, use of a scribe for your essay, or testing over multiple days. For special testing, the testing is done at your school instead of a National Testing Center and is proctored by a coordinator who meets ACT qualifications.

English learner supports

As of 2017, test takers whose native language is not English may request special ESL support on the ACT. These accommodations include extra time, the use of an approved bilingual dictionary, and translated test instructions; they do not include translated test questions.

The test material measures your ability to understand basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis; reason quantitatively, and solve problems in a quantitative setting.

Typically the GRE is considered more difficult compared to the ACT or SAT, even though the math problems on the GRE are actually a lower level of difficulty compared to the arithmetic in either of the other two tests. The trick to the GRE is that it has more challenging vocabulary and reading sections.

In addition, the majority of its math problems require higher-level reasoning or have more complicated wording; the math problems on the GRE test your critical thinking more than they challenge your actual arithmetic skills.

How does the Computer delivered GRE test work

Computer Delivered GRE

Computer Delivered GRE and what it means! The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are section-level adaptive. This means that the first section of Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning has different difficulty levels. These levels are from easy to difficult. The first section of GRE is assembled such that, overall, the first section is of average difficulty. Therefore, the level of difficulty for the second section of each of the measures depends on your performance in the first section.

Eg. If you do well in the first section of Quantitative Reasoning, the second section will be at a higher difficulty. The scoring for the Quantitative Reasoning calculates the total number of questions answered correctly across both sections. Additionally, it measures the difficulty level of the section.

Under what circumstances would I be ineligible to take the LSAT?

LSAT

You may not take the LSAT more than three times in any two-year period. This policy applies even if you cancel your score or if your score is not otherwise reported. LSAC reserves the right to cancel your registration, rescind your admission ticket, or take any other steps necessary to enforce this policy.

For significant extenuating circumstances, LSAC may grant exceptions to this policy. To request an exception, submit a signed, detailed explanation—along with verification, if possible—addressing the circumstances that you feel make you eligible to retake the LSAT and specifying the date that you wish to test. Scan and email your request as an attachment to [email protected] or send it by fax to 215.968.1277.

You will be notified by email of approval or denial of your request. Be sure to submit your request well in advance of the regular registration deadline so that you can receive timely notification of our decision. Barring unforeseen circumstances, LSAC will respond within seven working days of receiving your request. LSAC’s decisions are final.

If you served as a test center staff member for the LSAT you may not take the LSAT in the subsequent 24-month period. Test takers who plan to take the LSAT within 24 months of having either supervised an LSAT or worked as part of the testing staff at an LSAT administration must notify LSAC upon registering for the test. LSAC will review the request and either honor the registration or offer an alternative test center and/or date. Requests must be received no later than the late registration deadline of the requested test date. Failure to abide by this requirement may result in the initiation of a misconduct and irregularities proceedings.

LSAC maintains a list of published test centers, which includes various undergraduate schools, law schools, military bases, embassies, and educational centers throughout the world. The LSAT is not administered at every test center on all testing dates, and there is limited center availability for each test administration. If you register online, you can check test center availability in real time.

When is the best time to take the LSAT?

LSAT

Many law schools require that the LSAT be taken by December for admission the following fall. However, taking the test earlier—in June or September/October—is often advised.
If you want to ensure you have an opportunity to repeat the test, register for either the June or September/October administration. This way, if you are unsatisfied with your initial score, the best time to take the LSAT test is in December, before law school application deadlines.

How do schools use the GMAT scores?

GMAT Scores

GMAT scores are reliable measures of certain developed skills that have been found to be important in the study of management at the graduate level. GMAT scores have also been shown to be good predictors of academic success in the first year of study at graduate schools of management. Unlike undergraduate grade point averages (or assessments) and curricula, which vary in their meaning across institutions, GMAT scores provide school professionals with a consistent, standardized evaluation tool for all applicants. The GMAT alone does not measure all the characteristics related to success in graduate school. Admissions committees may also consider an applicant’s undergraduate record and other information obtained from applications, interviews, and letters of recommendation.

What is the GMAT score range?

GMAT score range

Total GMAT scores range from 200 to 800. Two-thirds of test takers score between 400 and 600. GMAT scores are given in increments of 10 (e.g. 540, 550, 560, 570, etc.). From the most recent data released by GMAC, the average GMAT score of all test takers is about a 540.

How is the GMAT scored?

GMAT – Scoring

An official GMAT score report consists of five parts:

  • GMAT Verbal Scaled Score (on a scale from 0 to 60)
  • GMAT Quantitative Scaled Score (on a scale from 0 to 60)
  • GMAT Total Scaled Score (on a scale from 200 to 800)
  • GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) Score (on a scale from 0 to 6)
  • GMAT Integrated Reasoning Score (on a scale from 1 to 8)

The total score is a scaled combination of the verbal and quantitative scaled scores, and thus reflects a student’s overall performance on the multiple-choice sections of the test. The AWA and the Integrated Reasoning sections

What is the IR (Integrated Reasoning) section in GMAT?

GMAT – Integrated Reasoning

On June 5, 2012, the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) introduced an integrated reasoning section to the exam that is designed to measure a test taker’s ability to evaluate data presented in new formats and multiple sources. Integrated Reasoning consists of four question types, which require you to analyze and synthesize data in different formats and from multiple sources. Almost all question formats require multiple responses. IR questions are designed to measure how well you integrate data to solve complex problems, so you must answer all parts of a single question correctly to receive credit. All answer choices for a single question are presented on the same screen. You must submit responses to all parts of the Integrated Reasoning question before moving on to a new question on another screen. Once you answer an Integrated Reasoning question, you may not go back and change the answer. Data presented in text are approximately 300 words or fewer. In the IR section answer options don’t provide information or clues that will help you solve other questions. One set of data is used for several Multi-Source Reasoning questions, but the IR questions are independent of one another—you won’t have to answer one IR question correctly to be able to answer another IR question.

What is the test structure of the GMAT?

GMAT Structure

The GMAT exam has the following structure- it consists of four sections – The analytical writing assessment, integrated reasoning, the quantitative section, and the verbal section. Total testing time for the GMAT is three and a half hours (four hours, with breaks.)

GMAT test structure

Section TimeQuestions
Analytical Writing Assessment30 mins1 Essay
Integrated Reasoning30 mins12 questions
Quantitative75 mins37 questions
Verbal75 mins41 questions

The quantitative and verbal sections of the GMAT exam are both multiple-choice and are administered in the computer-adaptive format, adjusting to a test taker’s level of ability. At the start of the quantitative and verbal sections, test takers are presented with a question of average difficulty. As questions are answered correctly, the computer presents the test taker with increasingly difficult questions and as questions are answered incorrectly the computer presents the test taker with questions of decreasing difficulty. This process continues until test takers complete each section, at which point the computer will have an accurate assessment of their ability level in that subject area and come up with a raw GMAT score for each section.

Any tips for SAT test time management?

SAT Tips

The SAT is a time-based aptitude test taken online, a key aspect is managing that time. Students should do more practice before they take the final SAT test. You have to complete each section in a dedicated time. Failing to complete within the time means your losing points for those unanswered questions. Some rules on SAT time management and how you can and can’t allocate your test time:

1.  You can not jump back-and-forth between the different sections of the test
2. You will not be allowed to return to earlier sections to change your answers
3. You are not allowed to spend more than the allotted time on any section
4. You can move around within a section
5. You can flip through your section at the beginning of the test to see what type of questions you have

How is the performance/ improvements tracked?

Ivy Aspire Performance Tracking

1. At Ivy Aspire, when the students enroll for the SAT classes, they will be asked to take an Ivy Aspire diagnostic test. This will give us an idea of his or her strength and weakness. Once we have mapped the results of the test, we create a personalized report and study plan. This will then be shared with the Parents and students.

2. Students will get a detailed schedule along with days when the classes and tests conducted. Post each SAT test; a report will be shared with the parents and students as to how they are progressing from day one. If we see there are no major improvements from the previous test, then students will go through one-on-one counseling to understand where he/she needs more help.

What is the Difference between SAT and ACT?

SAT vs ACT

The notion that between SAT vs ACT that one is easier than the other is not true. In some key areas (no guessing penalty, essay optional, charts/graphs, vocab, and grammar in context) the SAT has moved closer to the ACT test but the mantra of the SAT test remains somewhat unchanged. It is a critical thinking test. Those students who might have chosen the old SAT would still be making a good choice with the new SAT test. They might even have an easier time considering that the essay is now optional and the guessing penalty is gone. These two things may not make the content easier but will certainly make the test less draining and stress-inducing. It is important to remember that both tests have their pros and cons, and find what is best suited to you.

Our Advice for SAT vs ACT

Our general advice would be to take an ACT test and SAT test sample paper. See which test is easier for you and then decide.

How many students take the SAT each year?

Number of SAT Students Everyear

There are nearly three million students that take the SAT each academic year at nearly seven thousand test centers in more than One Hundred and Seventy countries.  In total, there are more than 1.6 million students in the high school class of 2012 took the SAT at least once during high school.

The SAT is a vital test, which is a requirement for several colleges primarily in the US. These colleges require you to submit your SAT score with your application. Additionally, there are certain colleges that are SAT-optional colleges. However, even here, the candidates who have an SAT score will be preferred to those candidates who don’t have an SAT score. What do I do if I don’t have my AP number?

AP number

If you need your AP number from this year or previous years before the July launch of the online score system, please call AP Services at 888-225-5427 for assistance.

When the online system becomes available, you will be able to click “I do not have my AP number” and enter the email address that you provided on your AP answer sheet. Your AP number will be emailed to you.

What is the score scale of AP Exams?

AP Exam – Score Scale

The final score for each AP Exam is reported on a 5-point scale that offers a recommendation about how qualified you are to receive college credit and placement:
5 = extremely well qualified
4 = well qualified
3 = qualified
2 = possible qualified
1 = no recommendation

The AP Program conducts studies in all AP subjects to compare the performance of AP students with that of college students in comparable college courses. These studies help set the “cut points” that determine how AP students composite scores are translated into an AP score of 1-5. AP Exam scores of 5 are equivalent to grades of A+ and A in the corresponding college course. AP Exam scores of 4 are equivalent to grades of A-, B+ and B in college. SAT subject tests, like their more popular counterpart the SAT, are scaled out of 800 so the raw score that is derived by adding one point for every correct answer and subtracting one-fourth of a point for every wrong answer is matched to the grading scale that is developed for that specific administration of the test to give you a score ranging from 200 to 800. This is done by the college board to ensure that variations in difficulty does not affect the test takers score.

Are all subjects available through out the year?

Subject Availability

All subjects are not available through the year, however popular subjects such as math, chemistry, literature, U.S history are available thorough the year. Some unpopular subjects such as Latin, World history and Hebrew are only offered twice a year.

How is the essay in the new SAT different?

SAT Essay

Students will have 50 minutes to complete their SAT essay. They will no longer be asked to agree or disagree or to write about their personal experience for the given topic.

The SAT Essay will no longer be required for everyone who takes the SAT; individual colleges and universities will determine whether they require SAT Essay scores from prospective students. The three SAT Essay scores will be separate from the other scores on the test.

The SAT essay is not mandatory.

Not all colleges require the essay score. You don’t have to take the SAT with optional Essay, but if you do, you will be able to apply to colleges that recommend or require it.  It’s is similar to the writing assignments you will get in college, and will also give the college a deeper look into you as a prospective student. It asks you to read a passage and analyze how the author constructs a persuasive argument. You’ll have 50 minutes to complete your Essay.

If you want to attempt the essay, keep in mind that you are required to register for it. In case you don’t register for it at first, you’re welcome to add it later though.

I am confused, which one should I prefer New SAT vs ACT?
