How is the New SAT scored?

New SAT Scoring

The SAT is scored on a 1600 point scale. This is further broken up into the Math and the Reading/Writing sections, where each section is awarded between 200 and 800 points each.

The optional essay doesn’t impact your overall score as it is evaluated separately. Also, now there is no penalty for wrong answers, so your raw score is the sum of the number of questions you answer correctly. Raw scores are converted to scaled scores, which are used to determine percentile ranks. The percentile indicates how well you did, compared to other students who also took the SAT.

For example, if you score in the 95th percentile, you did better than 95% of other students.
