What is the GRE?
The Graduate Record Examination is
especially designed to provide graduate schools
a standard measure to compare the qualifications
of various applicants. It has also proven to be
a reliable measure to predict the performance of
students in colleges. In addition to admissions,
colleges often use the GRE score to determine
the eligibility for merit based grants and
fellowships.

What is on the GRE?
This is a computer based, Computer
Adaptive Test (CAT). It lasts for approx 3
hours. It is divided into 3 sections:
The Analytical Writing
Section - this section has 2 essays.
"Perspective on an issue" and "Analyze an
argument." This last for 75 minutes overall. The
"issue'' essay being 30 minutes long and the"
argument" essay being 45 minutes
The Quantitative Section -
This section has 28 multiple choice questions
and you are given 45 minutes to complete this
section. It includes quantitative comparisons,
word problems, and data interpretation (graph
questions)
The Verbal Section -
This section has30 questions and lasts for 30
minutes. This section consists of sentence
completion, analogy, reading comprehension and
Antonym
How is the GRE scored?
The GRE Score is based on how you perform
on each section of the GRE:
- Analytical Writing Assessment (0 to 6
points).
- Quantitative Score ( 200-800 points)
- Verbal Score (200 to 800 points)
How much does the GRE cost?
The fee to take the GRE test is USD 140 within
the United States. The fee is USD 170 in most
other locations
