How is the ACT test scored?

There are four primary sections, ACT English, ACT Math, ACT Reading, and ACT Science. Each of the sections are scored on a scale of 1 to 36. The same scale has been used since the first ACT test in 1959.

If you are taking the ACT Writing, you will receive 2  additional scores:

  • A combined ACT English/ ACT Writing score (on the 1-36 scale)
  • A score for your essay, on a scale of 2 to 12.

Finally, you will receive an ACT composite score, which is just the average of the 4 primary scores.
